How to Get your Yard and Garden Ready for Spring

Do you feel as though your yard is lacking a bit, especially after winter’s end? Maybe you feel as though you want to improve but you just have no idea where to start. Either way, if this sounds like you then here are some easy steps that you can take to keep your yard and garden looking great for years to come.

Tidy up your Flower Beds

One of the first things you need to do is go around and tidy up your flower beds. Remove any leaves and debris and form a border as part of your general clean-up routine.

You can also chop back some of the overgrown weeds, trees, bushes and wildflowers that you have growing. If you can do this in early spring, then you will find it easier to prime your soil so that it is then ready for planting new things. Clearing an overgrown garden is important, too and you will feel much better when it is done.

At the end of the day, the more you can do this now, the more you will be able to set your yard up for success going forward.

Prepare your Soil

Many gardeners will soon be busy when it comes to spreading seeds and planting flowers. This is especially the case as the weather warms up and the days begin to get longer. Of course, if you want to make a big improvement here then one thing you can do is look into what you want to plant, and where you would like to plant it.

Sowing some wildflower seeds and even some ornamental plants, such as poppies and sunflowers is always a nice thing to do, not to mention that it will help you to truly welcome spring to your yard and garden.

Try to plant some potatoes, asparagus and onions. If you can combine these with tomatoes, courgettes, leeks and more then you will soon find that your garden comes to life. If you need to get some pruning done then be sure to check for pests and disease, because the last thing you want to do is sow seeds that are going to get a disease before they have had time to grow hardy.

Create some Seating Areas

If you can take the time to create some seating areas, it will be a welcome place to sit and visit with friends and family. With the weather heating up, more and more people are now finding that their yards are much more useful. If you are lucky then you may find that you can sit out in the sun a little more. If you have furniture already then this is great, but you may want to give it a bit of a cleaning. Here you can find out how to clean teak outdoor furniture in 5 easy steps.

Add some Colorful Pots and Planters

Adding a few new colorful pots and planters to your backyard will really make the area more beautiful and inviting. A stunning yard really would not be complete without a pop of color, so try and keep this in mind and avoid brown or boring planters.

Plant several summer-flowering bulbs or even purchase some pre-planted containers if you can. You then need to scatter them throughout your garden. If you cannot wait a month or two for your flowers then use containers that are both vibrant and bright.

Mow your Lawn

As spring continues and the weather warms up, it becomes even more important for you to keep your lawn nice and mowed. Take the time to go over any long patches of grass and take note of any areas where the grass looks to be dying off.

If you can do this then you will soon find that it becomes much easier for you to get the result you want when it comes to your outdoor space. If you notice that your grass isn’t healthy and you want to do something about this then one thing you can do is try and plant some new seed. Just make sure that the new seed you plant is hardier and that it can withstand whatever issues your current grass is experiencing. If it is unable to do so then you may find that you end up with the same issue over and over again, when in reality, this could have been easily avoided.
