4 Cities Everyone Should Visit at Least Once in Their Lifetime

Have you ever been in a situation where your friend came back from a trip and it seemed like their life had been changed by the vacation? You were then left wondering why you are never so passionate about your vacations.

Well, the destination has a lot to do with it, although that's not the only factor to consider. Sometimes a "once in a lifetime" trip can really change your life. Here is a list of cities everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime because they are THAT unforgettable.

Cities You Will Remember Forever

It is a real shame to pay for a trip if you will just forget most of it a few weeks after you get back. As we all know, traveling isn't cheap. Some places in the world leave a lasting effect and you might even consider the vacation priceless and worth every penny.

Tokyo, Japan

When you get to Tokyo, you will feel like there are two different centuries existing side by side.

It's the perfect blend of what you imagine the future to be like, plus there are all these old temples and shrines that completely change the energy.

Just imagine yourself standing in front of a 100 year old temple, and then a neon-lit magnetic train glides past you at 186 mph. It's absurd when you think about it, but this is what Tokyo is like.

And another thing that is super weird is that Tokyo has no city center. Even NYC has Times Square, but no, Tokyo doesn't have one. This likely has to do with the fact that Tokyo houses 40+ million people. It's not huge, it is massive. It's the biggest city on the planet, and it would be pointless to create one city center because if you live in one area of Tokyo, you might not visit the entire city throughout your lifetime.

Each neighborhood (e.g., Shibuya, Asakusa, Ginza, Shimokitazawa, etc.) has its own 'city center'. Each of these neighborhoods is basically a little city inside a bigger city. Each one with its own unique personality.

Even if all you come here for is the food, it's still worth it.  The food is delicious, and you don't have to go to fancy restaurants to notice that. A tiny ramen shop could very well serve the best broth you have tasted in your entire life, and the sushi? It melts on your tongue and has incredible flavor.

Rome, Italy

This list simply wouldn't be complete without Rome.

Rome is so full of history that it has no choice but to serve it out in the open, for everyone to see. Every block has something ancient that will take your breath away. It's not just the Colosseum or the Roman Forum that are worth visiting. In fact, those places can be a bit overwhelming for some people.

The way to experience real Rome is to find something like a quiet piazza with a 500-year-old fountain, or try a simple pasta dish from a small restaurant that's all the locals' favorite.

The big stuff absolutely deserves your attention, but do yourself a favor and wander a little when you get tired of the crowds and the chaos.

Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa

There aren't many cities in the world that have a backdrop like Cape Town.

We're talking about Table Mountain. This flat-topped giant looms over everything and changes color as the light changes throughout the day. The great thing about Cape Town is that it has the ocean on one side and the mountain on the other. You can go for a hike in the morning and lie on the beach in the afternoon!

The Cape Peninsula is THE place to be for anyone who likes coastal views (they're almost too perfect here), and Bo-Kaap is brimming with culture and history.

And color is amazing, of course.

You will find a mix of culture here, and it'll show up in everything from food, to the music, to the way people talk to each other.

Istanbul, Türkiye

Istanbul, Türkiye

Istanbul is on the edge of 2 continents, and if that doesn't tell you everything about it, what does? It's a unique place, to say the very least.

The Bosphorus goes straight through the city, so you have Europe on one side and Asia on the other. If you like palaces and mosques, you will be happy to know that the waterfront is lined with them, and the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque aren't sights you'll forget anytime soon.

You can buy just about anything on the Grand Bazaar, but even if you don't, the smells and the people will be enough for it to be etched in your memory forever.

Of course, you can't mention Istanbul without saying a few words about cats. Make sure you're very nice to them because the 'stray' cats are everyone's cats here. They're fed and taken care of, and they're beloved by all the locals.

If you sit in a cafe for a cup of tea and baklava, get ready for a cat jumping on your lap for a cuddle.

Each one of these cities has something to offer to pretty much anyone.

There is plenty to do and plenty to see in each one of these beautiful cities. You want to learn about other cultures, different landmarks, and eat delicious food? You can do that in each of these locations.

All you need to do is pick a spot and enjoy yourself.  That's really all there is to it!
